This is my favourite post to write because I love preparing and packing for a trip. Being organised and ticking off lists makes me happy and content! So here it is ----- my detailed Ultimate Travel Packing Guide.
Your first thought may be when thinking of packing,'Where Do I Start?!'
It can cause a lot of worry thinking of all the things you may need or the thought of forgetting anything. Packing for a long term trip is important but it doesn't have to be carried out with anxiety. I'll list everything I take and will write on this post what's most important to remember.
First things first, make a list! This gets everything out your head and is the best way to start. You want to be comfortable and confident on the road but you don't want to buy a huge backpack and over-pack it as you will be left carrying it on your back for months --- full of regret!
Remember less is more! You will want to pick up extras / memories / souvenirs on the way so leave room for them. When purchasing clothes while travelling, my rule is - if you buy something new, throw something out. For toiletries, don't take everything you own! Most things are available to buy (for cheap) on the road.
Below I'll list everything I take on my trips, how to pack correctly and things that are handy to remember!
WHAT I USE TO PACK
BACKPACKS + THE REST
BACKPACK >> OSPREY FARPOINT 70L VOLCANIC GREY
Ospreys make the best travelling companion. They're well designed, have strong zips, enduring material and overall excellent quality. This backpack opens like a suitcase making it much easier to find anything than if the entry point was on top of the bag. Trust me, it saves a lot of time and effort! It comes with a 20L Travel Rucksack attached. This small rucksack is perfect for everyday use as a Day Bag.
RUCKSACK >> OSPREY QUASAR 28 EVERYDAY & COMMUTE PACK
The Osprey Quasar is highly durable and comes with lots of compartments for holding my most valued belongings and equipment. It's bigger than my usual rucksack because I now carry a laptop other than a netbook or a tablet. I secure this bag on my front while on the move and never let it out of my sight while travelling. I keep all my valuables in here along with anything delicate or that I need to find quickly.
TOILET BAG #1 >> WATERPROOF HANGING TOILET BAG
Hanging toilet bags are easy to use and handy for shared bathrooms. I use the zipped compartments to keep my make up and shower toiletries organised and easily found. I only take basic make up with me because I very rarely wear it while travelling -- don't hide bronzed skin! It's handy to have your toilet bag waterproof in case the bathroom you're using is very small.
TOILET BAG #2 >> PRYZM LASER TOILET BAG (LARGE)
This is where I keep my everyday toiletries. This particular one glows in the dark which is brilliant for grabbing your toilet bag after arriving to a dorm late at night.
